Weekly Update, April 16, 2024

Hello Creative Community!

In my last email, I showed this project.  It combines very simple piecing and embroidery.

As I was thinking about this week's email, I though about how my method of stitching has changed over the years. As a child and a young adult, I created many hand stitched as well as machine stitched items. As life changed; kids, moves, busy career in health care, opening the shop, my stitching projects changed. I spent more time at my sewing machine and less time hand stitching.

In November and December my husband was ill. I found myself thinking that I may be spending a considerable amount of time waiting at medical visits. What could I do during those hours? I know all of you are faced with life changing events. Many of those events involve waiting. I began to think about take along projects. I got out some hand embroidery projects from long ago and started to investigate what is "new"!

There are sew many fabulous guides for hand stitching which I will share in upcoming book reviews. What I really loved the most was the information on the positive benefits of hand sewing on our mental well-being. As you know, I think sewing should be meditative so I was very excited to read about all of the studies that reveal numerous positive health benefits!

In the upcoming months I will offer more slow stitching options in the classroom as well as in the shop!

Our love for creating never changes, just your method!
